Food Hugs "Causemetics"

Updated: Sep 14

I consider myself a self-proclaimed girly girl, and I must admit, I have a bit of vanity in my blood - just like the other fabulous ladies on my mom's side of the family. I have a weakness for lipsticks and mascara, so when Chef Jenna Arcidiacono of Amore Trattoria Italiana and Jess Carae of Carae Cosmetics joined forces to release a new line of cosmetics for a good cause (Chef Jenna’s Food Hugs), I couldn't resist the urge to treat myself.

I wasn't able to attend the Sparkle Party where beauty meets philanthropy so I purchased some of them online instead. Behold the treasures I acquired: an eyeshadow palette, two luscious lip kits (Barbie and Very Berry), a sparkly lip gloss, and a daring pink mascara. The eyeshadow palette was a delightful surprise, as it's practically the size of a tablet - talk about bang for your buck!

While going through the products available, I spotted the most outrageously pink mascara I had ever seen. With a twinkle in my eye and a devil-may-care attitude, I thought to myself, "Why not?" And just like that, I found myself at the checkout counter with a tube of bubblegum-colored magic in hand. As I swiped on that daring shade for the first time, I couldn't help but feel like a glamorous rebel breaking all the beauty rules. Who knew that a simple impulse buy could bring such joy and confidence? Here's to taking chances and rocking that pink mascara like nobody's business!

This lipliner glides on like a dream! I had to steady my hand to avoid shaky lines - after all, even seasoned pros can get a little nervous their first time. Trying out the lipstick for the first time was quite an adventure. I slathered on a generous amount, only to be greeted with lips that were practically screaming "Barbie pink meets Mrs. Potato Head" at me. (Ah, the iconic Mrs. Potato Head lips - always perfectly puckered and ready for a smooch!). The lipstick seemed to have a personality of its own - part glamorous Barbie doll ready for a night out on the town, part quirky Mrs. Potato Head with her unique charm.

As I futilely dabbed at my overzealous application of lipstick with a tissue to blot out some of the color, I quickly realized that this shade was not going down without a fight. The smudge-proof formula was proving to be more persistent than a telemarketer trying to sell you extended car warranties. It clung to my lips like a toddler clinging to their favorite stuffed animal, refusing to budge an inch. I couldn't help but admire the sheer determination of this lipstick, if only I could apply that level of commitment to other areas of my life. Don't get me wrong, the color wasn't terrible, just a tad bold for someone who usually flies under the radar like me.

As a self-proclaimed lipstick aficionado, I simply couldn't resist the urge to test out the staying power of my latest shade du jour while dining. After all, what better way to gauge the true quality of lipstick than by subjecting it to the ultimate challenge of a hearty meal? Would it withstand the potential onslaught of greasy pizza slices and saucy spaghetti twirls, or would it crumble under the pressure (literally)? Armed with my trusted mirror and a hungry appetite, I embarked on my culinary adventure, ready to put this lipstick through its paces. As I savored each delicious bite, I covertly checked for any signs of fading or smudging - all in the name of beauty science, of course. And let's just say, this lipstick passed the dinner test with flying colors (pun intended). Beauty may be fleeting, but good lipstick is forever - even after multiple servings of garlic bread. Cheers to flawless lip color that lasts longer than your average dinner conversation!

After experiencing the sheer power of bold lip color, I've come to realize the importance of a light touch when applying. Lesson learned: a little goes a long way in the world of bold lip colors.

The eyeshadow palette boasts an impressive array of 35 different colors, ranging from soft pinks to neutral tones, in a variety of finishes from matte to glittery. Don't be deceived by the subtle shades of pink - they pack a punch! As an introvert, I appreciate that the pigmentation is bold yet still suitable for my low-key style. Tip: just like the lipsticks, a little goes a long way.
